Purchasers of these certificates were not issued a physical bond as in previous years. Instead, they were provided with a receipt that confirmed the investment. The Registrar redeemed these certificates upon maturity by either direct deposit or by cheque made payable to the original Savings Certificate Holder.
If a certificate holder moved or changed their address without informing the registrar, those matured certificate payments were unsuccessful. The funds are still available, and these unprocessed payments are now being managed by the Unclaimed Properties Trust.
