Overview

Curriculum and Career Education Division / STEM, Careers and Indigenous Curriculum Sector / Mathematics and Sciences 

The Mathematics and Sciences Branch supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality Kindergarten to Grade 12 mathematics and science curriculum that is in alignment with The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum.

Role

The STEM, Careers and Indigenous Curriculum Sector is seeking a highly motivated Curriculum Consultant with high school Mathematics experience. 

In this challenging and rewarding position, you will:

  • report to the Director of Mathematics and Sciences or delegate
  • support the maintenance and development of high-quality curriculum
  • provide specialized advice to support the implementation of new curriculum and monitor its continued use
  • synthesize and summarize researched content from a variety of sources
  • provide information and supports to stakeholders, the public, and other education partners regarding curriculum
  • provide advice to leadership regarding curriculum content and sequencing of learning

This opportunity is ideal for a professional with:

  • high school mathematics teaching experience
  • familiarity with the Guiding Framework and curriculum development models
  • awareness of government’s decision-making process

The term of this role will be from approximately September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027.

The service days per your collective agreement will be honoured, but there is no guarantee of alignment with your school authority’s natural breaks.

Most interchange opportunities are situated in Edmonton. Residing in the metro area may be required. If you are selected for an interview, you are encouraged to discuss the work location requirements with recruiters during the interview process.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • supporting the maintenance and development of high-quality curriculum
  • working collaboratively with team members to support decision making regarding content, development processes, research, and planning
  • preparing and reviewing briefing materials such as memos, briefing notes, and presentations
  • synthesizing and summarizing researched content from a variety of sources
  • providing specialized advice to support the implementation of new curriculum and monitoring its continued use
  • providing information and supports to stakeholders, the public and other education partners regarding curriculum
  • providing advice to leadership regarding curriculum content and sequencing of learning

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • a Master’s Degree in Education or in a mathematics-related field plus 5 years of teaching experience (a Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus 7 years of related experience will be considered as equivalency)
  • experience teaching high school mathematics
  • a valid permanent Alberta Professional Teaching Certificate (or equivalent from another province or territory)
  • high quality ethics
  • solid understanding of digital literacy
  • strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • sound project management skills and organizational skills
  • the ability to work with a team
  • excellent research skills

Assets

Preference will be given to applicants who have:

  • experience teaching in both urban and rural classroom settings
  • fluency in French
