System Excellence Division / Provincial Assessment Sector / Diploma Programs Branch
The Diploma Programs Branch is responsible for the design, development, administration, scoring, and marking of all Grade 12 mathematics, science, and humanities diploma examinations. All diploma exams reflect the outcomes of the curriculum, and the questions meet rigorous statistical and qualitative standards for reliability and validity. The branch also involves classroom teachers in many aspects of the diploma exam development process and in the marking of students’ written responses in language arts, mathematics, and social studies.
Role
The Provincial Assessment Sector is seeking a highly motivated English Language Arts 30-2 Examiner.
In this challenging and rewarding position, you will:
- report to the Director of Diploma Programs or delegate
- work directly with the English Language Arts 30-2 Diploma Exam Lead
- work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
The term of this role will be from approximately September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2028.
The service days per your collective agreement will be honoured, but there is no guarantee of alignment with your school authority’s natural breaks.
Most interchange opportunities are situated in Edmonton. Residing in the metro area may be required. If you are selected for an interview, you are encouraged to discuss the work location requirements with recruiters during the interview process.
The successful candidate for this position will be required to undergo security screening (including a criminal record check).
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- assisting in the development of English Language Arts 30-2 diploma exams
- helping construct high-quality exam questions that meet psychometric and assessment specifications
- helping to prepare field tests
- critically reviewing exam materials
- contributing to the scoring and reporting processes
- assisting in the preparation of reports
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- a related undergraduate degree
- a valid permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate plus extensive current related teaching and leadership experience at the school, jurisdictional and/or provincial level
- a minimum of 5 years directly related teaching experience in English Language Arts 30-2
- sound project management and organizational skills
- high quality ethics
- the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment
- strong commitment to excellence and assurance in education
- a high level of comfort working in a digital environment to support fully digital online assessments
Assets
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- experience with provincial diploma exam development and scoring processes
- related graduate work
