Overview
System Excellence Division / Field Services Sector / North and South Services Branches
Field Services provides support to the Minister, the ministry, key educational stakeholders, and provincial school authorities for Kindergarten to Grade 12. The sector has a strategic focus and cohesive approach to implementation of education-related legislation, regulations, policies, programs and initiatives, while understanding local context and priorities among school authorities. Field Services promotes continuous improvement and system effectiveness with school authorities, monitors for compliance on accountability/assurance requirements, and facilitates efforts in areas for improvement. The sector provides supports with issues management and problem solving at the school authority level.
Role
The Field Services Sector is seeking 2 highly motivated Field Services Consultants.
In this challenging and rewarding position, you will:
- report to one of 4 Field Services Directors
- monitor and support provincial school authorities
- work closely with ministry and government partners to support student success
This opportunity is ideal for a professional with:

The term of this role will be from approximately September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2028.
The service days per your collective agreement will be honoured, but there is no guarantee of alignment with your school authority’s natural breaks.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- monitoring, providing administrative support, and supporting the assurance process for several provincial, charter, and independent school authorities
- supporting the development of new independent school authorities and public charter school authorities
- contributing to project-based initiatives at the branch and sector level that address choice in education, including independent and charter schools, home education and alternative programs
- establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with Field Services colleagues and their clients, stakeholders and partners
- applying knowledge, skills and previous experience to solve problems and provide advice, particularly in response to emergent issues, inquiries, dispute resolution, and questions regarding the interpretation and implementation of programming, legislation, regulations and policies
- monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing briefings, reports, news releases, media coverage, and other publications and information sources to identify emerging and sensitive issues related to Alberta Education and Childcare and school authorities to be brought to the attention of senior sector, division and ministry representatives
- summarizing and preparing information relating to identified issues to ensure appropriate background materials, input and briefings are available to inform strategic decisions and priorities, and provide associated advice and recommendations to sector leadership and ministry representatives, when appropriate
- ensuring that concerns of clients, stakeholders and partners are addressed in a timely, accurate and appropriate manner that meets department quality standards
- analyzing data, measures and results, and provide the sector with advice to strengthen the coherence of tools, activities, and processes that guide school authorities, such as the Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports to support continuous improvement
- building collaborative relationships to solve problems and to initiate and complete projects
- providing information and recommendations to address specific issues
- reviewing and recommending revisions to provincial policy, funding regulations and standards documents
- researching issues to prepare responses to communication requests on behalf of the branch, senior officials and the Minister
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- an Alberta Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate
- administrative experience at the school and/or school authority levels with a strong knowledge of school and school system operations (equivalencies may be considered)
- leadership and project management experience, with highly developed communication and presentation skills
- high quality ethics
- exceptional organizational and planning skills
- the ability to deal effectively with a demanding and challenging workload
- the ability to work both independently and with an action-oriented team
- extensive knowledge of software applications (SharePoint, MS Office, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- a valid driver’s license, as some travel is required within Alberta
Assets
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- a Master of Education Degree or equivalent
- knowledge of ministry mandates, business plans, organizational structure, priorities and programs
