System Excellence Division / Teaching and Leadership Excellence Sector / Teacher and Leadership Certification Branch
The Teacher and Leadership Certification Branch administers matters related to the issuance of teaching and leadership authority in accordance with the Education Act, the Certification of Teachers and Teacher Leaders Regulation, the Labour Mobility Act and professional practice standards. The branch also leads education workforce policy and analytics and operates grant and bursary programs to support the education workforce.
Role
The Teaching and Leadership Excellence Sector is seeking a highly motivated Consultant, Teacher Certification.
In this position, you will:
- report to the Director of Teacher and Leadership Certification Branch or delegate
- support work related to teacher certification to achieve department strategic and operational priorities

The term of this role will be from approximately September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2028.
The service days per your collective agreement will be honoured, but there is no guarantee of alignment with your school authority’s natural breaks.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- fostering collaborative relationships and ongoing engagement with teacher applicants, school authorities, schools, post-secondary institutions, and education partners
- addressing inquiries from school authorities and the public regarding matters of teacher certification, including providing support with applications, and ensuring related legislation, regulation and policies are adhered to
- supporting the development and presentation of information sessions, workshops, and webinars for internal and external stakeholders to build knowledge and understanding of the teacher certification process, as well as other work related to Alberta’s teaching profession
- researching relevant issues/topics and developing reports, responses, and resources, as required
- maintaining project management documents and files related to teacher certification
- contributing to the daily operations of the branch by responding to requests for information, participating in meetings, and contributing to additional projects as required
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- a Bachelor of Education undergraduate degree
- a valid Alberta Permanent Professional Certificate in teaching
- current related teaching experience in an Alberta school
- a minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- high quality ethics
- strong analytical and writing skills
- strong communication and organizational skills
- the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment
- strong commitment to excellence and assurance in education
Assets
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- sound project management experience
- experience with issues management
- knowledge of or experience with matters related to teacher certification
