System Excellence Division / Provincial Assessment Sector / French Assessment and Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) Branch
The French Assessment and CAEC Branch within Alberta Education and Childcare administers the new Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC). The CAEC provides an opportunity for adults to obtain an academic credential that they can use to
- meet the necessary academic requirements for their current employment
- seek new or different employment opportunities
- return to higher learning in pursuit of further accreditation, usually in colleges or trades
Alberta Education and Childcare collaborates with participating provinces and territories to develop and implement these Canadian-owned adult assessments.
Role
The Provincial Assessment Sector is seeking a highly motivated CAEC Math and Science Assessment Specialist.
In this challenging and rewarding position, you will:
- report to the Director of French Assessment and CAEC
- work directly with the CAEC Team Lead
- work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
- work in close collaboration with the CAEC French team to ensure equity and alignment between English and French language assessments
The term of this role will be from approximately September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2028.
The service days per your collective agreement will be honoured, but there is no guarantee of alignment with your school authority’s natural breaks.
Most interchange opportunities are situated in Edmonton. Residing in the metro area may be required. If you are selected for an interview, you are encouraged to discuss the work location requirements with recruiters during the interview process.
The successful candidate for this position will be required to undergo security screening (including a criminal record check).
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- leading the development of questions for the Mathematics and Science assessments helping to construct high-quality exam questions that meet psychometric and assessment specifications for adult learners
- ensuring Mathematics and Science questions represent the diversity of Canada, including Francophone and Indigenous perspectives while preparing field tests
- critically reviewing exam materials in consultation with department and pan-Canadian subject matter experts
- contributing to the scoring and reporting process
- assisting in the preparation of manuals and reports
- assisting in program delivery and providing customer service to testing centers and stakeholders
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- a strong understanding of adult education and andragogy
- a related undergraduate degree
- a valid permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate or equivalent plus teaching experience and leadership experience at the school, jurisdictional, and/or provincial level
- sound project management and organizational skills
- high quality ethics
- the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment
- a high level of comfort working in an evolving digital environment as the sector transitions to online assessments
Assets
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- adult teaching experience and leadership experience
- experience with at-risk populations and alternative learning environments
- experience with large-scale standardized assessment development, marking, and scoring processes

- acknowledge areas where expectations about own service delivery, performance or interpersonal interactions are not met and take corrective action
