Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Wildfire Alert Updated
UPDATE of May 16 – The mandatory evacuation orders for Fort McMurray, Anzac, & Fort McMurray First Nation remain in effect as resources continue to fight and monitor the Wildfire in Wood Buffalo. Numerous areas in this region are experiencing heavy smoke which is affecting visibility, and can cause breathing issues. Extreme care should be taken in these areas.
A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for all areas receiving water from the Fort McMurray water system, and water from this system must be safely and properly boiled before it is consumed. The Fort McMurray Airport continues to be used for Wildfire Aircraft operations only, and is closed to commercial and private aircraft until further notice. The Fire Ban remains in effect for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the public should check Local and Provincial websites for Fire Bans in other areas. - Seek medical attention if you experience breathing difficulties
- The public should not be in areas under an evacuation order, as these areas are not safe
- Do not drink the water from the Fort McMurray water system unless it can be safely and properly boiled first
