Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Wildfire Alert Updated

UPDATE of May 13 – The Wildfire continues to burn in Wood Buffalo and the areas of Fort McMurray, Anzac, & Fort McMurray First Nation still remain under mandatory evacuation orders. Due to the Wildfire numerous areas are experiencing heavy smoke which is affecting visibility and can cause breathing issues. Extreme care should be taken in these areas.

Any areas receiving water from the Fort McMurray water system need to safely and properly boil the water before consuming, and this also applies to all authorized responders working in the evacuation areas. Smoke from the Wildfire is being carried on the wind for a great distance from the actual fire, and the public, especially those with lung disease, should be cautious of the air quality if there is smoke in your area. See the Air Quality web address below for more information. The Fort McMurray Airport is operational but continues to be used for Wildfire Aircraft operations only and is closed to commercial and private aircraft until further notice. At the time of this update the Province of Alberta is currently under a Province Wide Fire Ban. The public is encouraged to continue to check Local and Provincial websites for details regarding any changes which might occur for Fire Bans in their area.
