Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Wildfire Alert Updated
UPDATE of May 11 – The Wildfire continues to burn and responding agencies are working on, and monitoring the fire’s location and growth to ensure the public’s safety. Mandatory evacuation orders for Fort McMurray, Anzac, & Fort McMurray First Nation remain in effect. The water from the Ft. McMurray water system needs to be safely and properly boiled before being consumed.
For the areas under mandatory evacuation orders the only persons allowed in these areas are, emergency personnel working on fire suppression, policing, and infrastructure responders. Any authorized persons working within the evacuation areas should not drink the water from the city system, and communities receiving their water from Ft. McMurray should safely and properly boil the water prior to consuming. The Fort McMurray Airport is operational but continues to be used for Wildfire Aircraft operations only and is closed to commercial and private aircraft until further notice. Smoke from the Wildfire is being carried on the wind for a great distance from the actual fire, and the public, especially those with lung disease, should be cautious of the air quality if there is smoke in your area.
