Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Wildfire Alert Updated
UPDATE of May 12 – The Wildfire continues to burn in Wood Buffalo and resources are actively working on, and monitoring, the fire to ensure the public’s safety. Fort McMurray, Anzac, & Fort McMurray First Nation remain under mandatory evacuation orders. Any areas receiving water from the Ft. McMurray water system need to safely and properly boil the water before consuming.
Smoke from the Wildfire is being carried on the wind for a great distance from the actual fire, and the public, especially those with lung disease, should be cautious of the air quality if there is smoke in your area. For the areas under mandatory evacuation orders the only persons allowed in these areas are, emergency personnel working on fire suppression, policing, and infrastructure responders, and these persons should not drink the water from the existing water system unless it has been properly boiled first. The Fort McMurray Airport is operational but continues to be used for Wildfire Aircraft operations only and is closed to commercial and private aircraft until further notice.
