Each year, we lead Alberta-based, export-ready companies on numerous international trade missions and events.

We established the Site Selector Tool to help businesses and investors find and asses available properties to expand or locate business opportunities across Alberta.

Workforce supports

We deliver employer-focused workforce supports including grants, training programs and online services that help Alberta employers recruit, upskill and retain talent.

Foreign credential recognition

We are enhancing foreign credential recognition to help fill critical labour and service gaps in key professions on which Albertans rely and help foreign trained professionals put their skills to work faster.

Our responsibilities

Leading efforts to grow Alberta’s economy by supporting entrepreneurs and employers, promoting trade and investment, helping recruit and retain domestic and foreign workers and promoting safe, fair and healthy workplaces.

The ministry has the following responsibilities:

  • Jobs: helping address employment needs, establishing and enforcing Alberta’s employment standards and the laws governing the health and safety of Alberta’s workplaces, as well as establishing fair and transparent governance practices for regulated professions and designated occupations or trades.
  • Workforce development: ensuring Albertans have the skills to succeed in the workplace and employers have access to the talent they need.
  • Economy: supporting Alberta entrepreneurs, businesses and communities to drive growth and job creation.
  • Regional economic development: delivering tailored services that respond to the distinct economic priorities of Alberta’s regions while strategically leveraging their strengths and emerging regional opportunities.
  • Trade and investment: attracting investment, promoting trade and supporting Alberta businesses’ abilities to access new markets, with a focus on defence, manufacturing and other key sectors.
  • Immigration: attracting international talent to address labour market gaps, providing credential recognition services and enhancing access to settlement services to support full participation in Alberta’s economy and society.
