Highway 40, King North Access Road – Insufficient sight distance
Overview
With increased development and traffic along Highway 40 between the City of Grande Prairie and the Hamlet of Grande Cache, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors is conducting a planning study to review potential future improvements. The study will address the overall highway safety, access needs, and improvements that may include service roads, passing/climbing lanes, pull-outs and twinning, where warranted. This study will be a continuation of the current twinning project from Township Road 700 south to the Kawka River.
Currently, Highway 40 within the study area, is a 2-lane undivided highway serving the many industrial and resource developments in the Municipal District of Greenview. The future development of the Greenview Industrial Gateway is also included in the study area, which will further enhance the industrial growth in this area. Highway 40 is also a key recreational corridor providing access to the Rocky Mountains and Jasper National Park.

Timelines
- The functional plan for the project is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2022.
- Timelines for detailed design and construction have not been established.
