Overview
As traffic continues to grow on Highway 15 between Highway 830 and Highway 834, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors is conducting a planning study to guide future improvements. The study will identify recommended intersection upgrades and appropriate road widening from the Town of Lamont to Highway 834 to support future requirements for an oversized, overweight transportation corridor.
Previously established long-term plans to guide the future twinning of Highway 15 in this area require updating due to recent changes to land use, community growth and other transportation projects that require these plans to be updated.
Currently, Highway 15 between Highway 830 and Highway 834 is a two-lane undivided highway that passes through the Town of Lamont. Highway 15 is the main highway corridor serving the Industrial Heartland that spans Lamont County and Strathcona County. Major industrial infrastructure projects use Highway 15 for access between large module fabrication centres in the Edmonton area and remote northern project sites, as well as Industrial Heartland Area developments. Both plans to twin Highway 15 between Highway 830 and Highway 29, and to widen it from Lamont to Highway 834 will support the movement of oversize and overweight loads.
Timelines
- The functional plan for the project is anticipated to be completed in early Fall 2021.
- Timelines for detailed design and construction have not been established.
Benefits
The improvements identified from this planning study will support safe and efficient travel, and address capacity issues by more effectively supporting the movement of larger loads.
