Proclamations

Overview

Bills become law when they have received Royal Assent. To learn more about the process, see how the Alberta government works.

If an act or portion of an act comes into force on proclamation, the Lieutenant Governor makes an order to proclaim, which is posted in Orders in Council. After proclamations are signed as an Order in Council, they are published in Part 1 of The Alberta Gazette.

• Continuing Care Act (SA 2022 cC-26.7). Proclaimed in force on April 1, 2024, except sections 33(2) and (3)(b), 34(5)(b) and 47. Sections 33(2) and (3)(b), 34(5)(b) and 47 proclaimed in force on April 1, 2025.
• Electricity Statutes (Modernizing Alberta’s Electricity Grid) Amendment Act, 2022 (SA 2022 c8). Sections 1, 2, except for subsection (18), and 3 proclaimed in force on March 6, 2024. Amends the Alberta Utilities Commission Act (SA 2007 cA-37.2), the Electric Utilities Act (SA 2003 cE-5.1) and the Hydro and Electric Energy Act (RSA 2000 cH-16).
  Section 2(18) proclaimed in force on January 1, 2025. Amends the Electric Utilities Act (SA 2003 cE-5.1).
• Financial Statutes Amendment Act, 2023 (SA 2023 c3). Section 17(2) and (3) proclaimed in force on April 16, 2024. Amends the Securities Act (RSA 2000 cS-4).
• Justice Statutes Amendment Act, 2023 (SA 2023 c8). Sections 1(2), (3), (6) and (7) proclaimed in force on January 1, 2024. Amends the Conflicts of Interest Act (RSA 2000 cC-23).
• Mineral Resource Development Act (SA 2021 cM-16.8). In sections 2(c) and 3(b), the words “, mines, mine sites, external mine discard dumps and processing plants”, section 48(1)(c) and Part 3 proclaimed in force on February 28, 2024.
• Police Amendment Act, 2022 (SA 2022 c22). Sections 3(b), 4, 6, 9, 10, 14, 21, 22, 44 and 46(f) proclaimed in force on November 8, 2023. Amends the Police Act (RSA 2000 cP-17).
• Public Sector Employers Amendment Act, 2023 (SA 2023 c12). Proclaimed in force on December 22, 2023. Amends the Public Sector Employers Act (SA 2019 cP-40.7), the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation Act (SA 2019 cA-26.3), the Alberta Investment Attraction Act (SA 2020 cA-26.4), the Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act (SA 2009 cA-31.5), and the Health Quality Council of Alberta Act (SA 2011 cH-7.2). Repeals the Reform of Agencies, Boards and Commissions Compensation Act (SA 2016 cR-8.5).
• Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, 2023 (SA 2023 c5). Sections 2 and 9 proclaimed in force on June 1, 2024. Amends the Civil Enforcement Act (RSA 2000 cC-15) and the Personal Property Security Act (RSA 2000 cP-7).
• Tax Statutes Amendment Act, 2023 (SA 2023 c13). Section 4(2)(b), (3)(b), (4)(a)(ii) and (c), (6), (7), (8) and (9)(b), (c) and (e) proclaimed in force on October 1, 2024. Amends the Tourism Levy Act (RSA 2000 cT-5.5).
