Overview

Bills become law when they have received Royal Assent. To learn more about the process, see how the Alberta government works.

If an act or portion of an act comes into force on proclamation, the Lieutenant Governor makes an order to proclaim, which is posted in Orders in Council. After proclamations are signed as an Order in Council, they are published in Part 1 of The Alberta Gazette.

  • Advanced Education Statutes Amendment Act, 2021 (SA 2021 c17). Sections 1(3) to (5), (7), (10) to (18), (20) and (21) proclaimed in force on July 20, 2022. Amends the Post-secondary Learning Act (SA 2003 cP-19.5).
  • Alberta Housing Amendment Act, 2021 (SA 2021 c23). Proclaimed in force on April 20, 2022. Amends the Alberta Housing Act (RSA 2000 cA-25).
  • Builders’ Lien (Prompt Payment) Amendment Act, 2020 (SA 2020 c30). Proclaimed in force on August 29, 2022. Amends the Builders' Lien Act (RSA 2000 cB-7), changes the title and chapter number of the Builders’ Lien Act to Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act (RSA 2000 cP-26.4), amends the Condominium Property Act (RSA 2000 cC-22), Land Titles Act (RSA 2000 cL-4), Mines and Minerals Act (RSA 200 cM-17).
  • Business Corporations Amendment Act, 2021 (SA 2021 c18). Proclaimed in force on May 31, 2022. Amends the Business Corporations Act (RSA 2000 cB-9), Companies Act (RSA 2000 cC-21), Cooperatives Act (SA 2001 cC-28.1), Societies Act (RSA 2000 cS-14) and the Unclaimed Personal Property and Vested Property Act (SA 2007 cU-1.5).
  • Captive Insurance Companies Act (SA 2021 cC-2.4). Proclaimed in force on July 1, 2022.
  • Citizen Initiative Act (SA 2021 cC-13.2). Proclaimed in force on April 7, 2022.
  • College of Alberta Superintendents Act (SA 2021 cC-18.8).   • Traffic Safety Amendment Act, 2022 (SA 2022 c6). Proclaimed in force on March 1, 2023. Amends the Traffic Safety Act (RSA 2000 cT-6).
  • Trails Act (SA 2021 cT-6.2). Proclaimed in force on February 23, 2022, except for section 5. Section 5 has effect on May 1, 2022. Amends the Public Lands Act (RSA 2000 cP-40).
