Proclamations

Overview

Bills become law when they have received Royal Assent. To learn more about the process, see how the Alberta government works.

If an act or portion of an act comes into force on proclamation, the Lieutenant Governor makes an order to proclaim, which is posted in Orders in Council. After proclamations are signed as an Order in Council, they are published in Part 1 of The Alberta Gazette.

• College of Alberta Superintendents Act (SA 2021 cC-18.8). Sections 1(1)(aa) and 17(3) to (6) proclaimed in force on January 1, 2023.
• Continuing Care Act (SA 2022 cC-26.7). Proclaimed in force on April 1, 2024, except sections 33(2) and (3)(b), 34(5)(b) and 47. Amends the Education Act (SA 2012 cE-0.3) and the Teaching Profession Act (RSA 2000 cT-2).
• Employment Standards Code (RSA 2000 cE-9). Section 63.1 repealed on February 16, 2023.
• Financial Statutes Amendment Act, 2022 (SA 2022 c4). Section 2 proclaimed in force on March 22, 2023. Amends the Alberta Health Care Insurance Act (RSA 2000 cA-20).
  Section 9 proclaimed in force on July 1, 2023. Amends the Tourism Levy Act (RSA 2000 cT-5.5).
  Section 8, except for subsections (2)(k), (3)(a) and (30), proclaimed in force on October 1, 2023. Amends the Tobacco Tax Act (RSA 2000 cT-4).
• Financial Statutes Amendment Act, 2023 (SA 2023 c3). Sections 2(3), 7(3), (4), (5), (9), (10), (11) and (16), 8, 9, 11, 12, 14(2), 15(4) and 16 proclaimed in force on March 29, 2023. Amends the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund Act (RSA 2000 cA-23), the Credit Union Act (RSA 2000 cC-32), the Debtors’ Assistance Act (RSA 2000 cD-6), the Fiscal Planning and Transparency Act (SA 2015 cF-14.7), the Infrastructure Accountability Act (SA 2021 cI-1.6), the Insurance Act (RSA 2000 cI-3), the Local Government Fiscal Framework Act (SA 2019 cL-21.5), the Post-secondary Learning Act (SA 2003 cP-19.5) and the Public Education Collective Bargaining Act (SA 2015 cP-36.5).
  Section 10 proclaimed in force on April 10, 2023. Amends the Horse Racing Alberta Act (RSA 2000 cH-11.3).
  Sections 1 and 13 proclaimed in force on April 16, 2023. Amends the Alberta Corporate Tax Act (RSA 2000 cA-15) and the Investing in a Diversified Alberta Economy Act (SA 2016 cI-10.5).
• Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2020 (No. 2) (SA 2020 c35). Sections 71, 72, 77, 81 to 92, 95(a)(i), to the extent that it repeals section 131(1)(a)(iii) to (vii) of the Health Professions Act, (ii), to the extent that it repeals section 131(1)(c) to (h) of the Health Professions Act, (iii) and (iv) and (b), 96(c), 97, 98, 102(b), 121 and 123 proclaimed in force on March 31, 2023. Amends the Health Professions Act (RSA 2000 cH-7), the Government Organization Act (RSA 2000 cG-10) and the Pharmacy and Drug Act (RSA 2000 cP-13).
  Sections 73, 75, 76 and 80 proclaimed in force on April 1, 2023. Amends the Health Professions Act (RSA 2000 cH-7).
• Labour Mobility Act (SA 2021 cL-0.7). Proclaimed in force on April 6, 2023, except section 27. Amends the Fair Registration Practices Act (SA 2019 cF-1.5).
• Mineral Resource Development Act (SA 2021 M-16.8). Proclaimed in force on March 1, 2023, except sections 2(c), 3(b) and 48(1)(c) and Part 3; sections 2(c) and 3(b), except for the words “, mines, mine sites, external mine discard dumps and processing plants” also in force on March 1, 2023. Amends the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (RSA 2000 cE-12), the Geothermal Resource Development Act (SA 2020 cG-5.5), the Natural Resources Conservation Board Act (RSA 2000 cN-3), the Oil and Gas Conservation Act (RSA 2000 cO-6), the Pipeline Act (RSA 2000 cP-15) and the Responsible Energy Development Act (SA 2012 cR-17.3).
• Police Amendment Act, 2022 (SA 2022 c22). Section 18 proclaimed in force on March 29, 2023. Amends the Police Act (RSA 2000 cP-17).
• Public’s Right to Know Act (SA 2022 cP-47). Proclaimed in force on February 15, 2023.
• Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, 2022 (SA 2022 c16). Section 13 proclaimed in force on November 1, 2022. Amends the Railway (Alberta) Act (RSA 2000 cR-4).
  Sections 3 and 6 proclaimed in force on November 30, 2022. Amends the Cooperatives Act (SA 2001 cC-28.1) and the Highways Development and Protection Act (SA 2004 cH-8.5).
  Section 15, except subsections (5) and (6)(b), proclaimed in force on March 22, 2023. 
  Amends the Rural Utilities Act (RSA 2000 cR-21).
• Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, 2023 (SA 2023 c5). Sections 2 and 9 proclaimed in force on June 1, 2024. Amends the Civil Enforcement Act (RSA 2000 cC-15) and the Personal Property Security Act (RSA 2000 cP-7).
• Traffic Safety Amendment Act, 2022 (SA 2022 c6). Proclaimed in force on March 1, 2023. Amends the Traffic Safety Act (RSA 2000 cT-6). Proclamation rescinded on February 28, 2023.
• Trustee Act (SA 2022 cT-8.1). Proclaimed in force on February 1, 2023. Amends the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act (SA 2008 cA-4.2), Powers of Attorney Act (RSA 2000 cP-20), Public Trustee Act (SA 2004 cP-44.1). Repeals the Trustee Act (RSA 2000 cT-8).
