Disability Income Assistance

The AISH and ADAP programs provide supports to Albertans with disabilities.

Introduction

The Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program provides financial and health benefits to eligible adult Albertans with a severe disability that permanently prevents employment. Find out more about AISH.

The Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) provides financial, health and employment supports to eligible adult Albertans with a severe disability that substantially impedes employment continuously or episodically. Find out more about ADAP.

Albertans can apply for either program using a single combined Disability Income Assistance Application – coming July 2, 2026.

Albertans eligible for ADAP or AISH may receive:

  • a monthly living allowance – money to pay for you living costs such as food, rent and utilities
  • a monthly child benefit – money to assist you with raising your dependent child(ren)
  • health benefits – assistance to cover health needs for you, your spouse or partner and your dependent child(ren)
  • personal benefits – money over and above your monthly living allowance for specific needs such as a special diet or assistance in an emergency
