Wellsite traverse project

The Surveys Section approves and stores the province’s wellsite traverse survey plans.

Overview

Since 1960, the Surveys Section has been responsible for approval and storage of Alberta’s wellsite traverse survey plans. On December 1, 1997, the Land Titles Office of Alberta Registries began registering the plans. The office scanned 5,499 plans and 2,526 index cards onto compact discs (CDs). The CDs became available on September 15, 1998. A download the complete set can be downloaded from the Director of Surveys.

About the data set

Information about the registered wellsite traverse survey plans is stored in two folders.

Index folder

The Index folder holds TIFF files of all plan index cards. These contain both traverse-plan diagrams for each township and a list of the plans within the township.

Wellsite folder

The Wellsite folder holds TIFF files of wellsite traverse plans by vault (WS) number. The Surveys Section assigns these vault numbers. Information about 338 dormant wellsite traverse plans is also available in this folder. These are plans that have not yet been approved.

Problem areas

The Surveys Section tried to get the clearest images possible when scanning the original material. However, in some images it may be difficult to read the information. If you find an unreadable image, please let us know (see contact information below for Edward Titanich).

The Surveys Section will look at the original material and try to improve the image. If that isn’t possible, the plan’s original surveyor must be contacted.

The office tried to acquire all plans, but WS108570 and WS122241 are missing.
