Security licences from participating registries

Overview

Qualified security workers and investigators can complete new applications and renewals for their licences through registry agents.

These occupations are listed under the Security Service and Investigators Act and include:

• security guard
• loss prevention
• security alarm responder
• executive protection
• patrol dog handler
• private investigator
• locksmith
• automotive lock bypass worker

Participating registry agents can process both new applications and renewals. This includes a $9 service fee charged on top of normal licensing fees.

After you receive your temporary licence, a permanent licence will be mailed to you within 60 days.

Criteria

To get a temporary licence through a registry you must:

• be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
• have a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector search
• provide your completed application or renewal forms
• provide all required documents
