Accomplishments

Reforms in the Public Safety and Emergency Services Statutes Amendment Act, 2025, will strengthen public safety and better protect rights and freedoms during emergencies.

New and improved victims of crime program to help you and your family recover from a serious crime.
Launched the province’s 24/7 electronic monitoring program for adult bail clients and community-sentenced offenders deemed to pose a public safety risk by the courts.
Expanded the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN ) unit with the addition of new teams and personnel to keep Alberta communities safe.

Our responsibilities
The ministry:
- works with partners in law enforcement, justice, health and social services for a fair and accessible justice system that upholds rule of law while supporting the needs of individuals
- is responsible for the custody and supervision of adults and young persons under correctional authority, as well as the facilitation of rehabilitation
- in collaboration with municipalities, Metis Settlements and First Nations, leads disaster preparation, mitigation, response and recovery to increase individual and community resilience
