Income Support – How to apply

Apply for financial assistance to pay for basic expenses like food, clothing and shelter.

Apply for Income Support

Step 1 – Create an Alberta.ca account

You will need to use your Alberta.ca Account to create or submit an Income Support application. We recommend using a verified Alberta.ca account. You can choose to verify your Alberta.ca Account by providing information from your valid Alberta driver’s licence or identification card.

Why verify?

You can begin your Income Support Program application with a basic Alberta.ca Account. However, Income Support staff will require you to verify your account before your application is approved.

  • Use digital signatures: Sign required forms online to complete your application more easily.
  • Apply faster: Skip the extra forms and uploads—verified information makes applying simpler.
  • Prove it’s really you: Your details are confirmed once, so you don’t have to keep proving who you are to different services.
  • Reduce hassle and mistakes: Verified details means fewer errors, smoother transactions and faster results.

Step 2 - Before you start your application

Gather the following documents for your application:

  • identification for you and your spouse or partner and any dependents
  • bank statements for 60 days prior to the date of application for all bank accounts, including chequing and savings
  • medical letter – if you cannot work for medical reasons

Step 3 - Apply online

Income Support staff are here to assist you. Abusive and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in the termination of your application.

If you need an interpreter to complete your application, or are having difficulty completing the online application, contact Alberta Supports for assistance.

Apply online

If you are unable to apply online and require in-person services, contact your local Alberta Supports Centre to make an appointment.

The Income Support application process can take up to 2 weeks.

Note: Emergency financial assistance can be addressed in as little as 2 days and can help with basic needs like shelter, food, clothing and transportation.

Fillable PDF forms may not open properly on some mobile devices and web browsers. See the step-by-step guide or contact PDF form technical support.
