The latest PISA results show Alberta’s 15-year-old students are among the top performers in Canada and internationally. Alberta ranked first among provinces in science and reading and second in mathematics, behind only Quebec, while scoring above both the Canadian and international averages in all three subjects.
“These outstanding results show Alberta students continue to excel on the world stage. They are a testament to the hard work of students, teachers, families and school communities across our province. Alberta’s government will continue to provide students with the strong foundation they need for future success.”
Alberta’s results were also comparable to those of leading education systems such as Singapore, Japan, Korea and Estonia, with several results statistically tied.

Continued participation in PISA provides valuable insight into how students are performing compared to their peers across Canada and other countries, benchmarks student achievement against national and international standards, identifies areas of strength and supports ongoing improvements in curriculum and classroom instruction.

- Alberta students achieved an average score of 520 in science, leading among Canadian provinces and above the OECD average of 482.
