Applications are now closed

Applications received for the final intake, which closed on November 21, 2025, are currently under evaluation.

Application decisions, and funding for successful recipients, can be expected in early 2026. If there are any funding delays, grantees will be notified directly.

Overview

The Inclusive Spaces Program Grant helps licensed daycares, preschools and family day home agencies create more inclusive and accessible environments for all children.

Eligible applicants may submit project proposals that improve access to existing programs through either of 2 funding streams:

  1. Accessible renovations – renovations to existing facilities to enhance accessibility and inclusivity, such as wheelchair ramps, elevators or adaptive washrooms.
  2. Equipment and materials – purchasing items that promote inclusion, such as assistive technology, sensory equipment, culturally relevant materials or adaptive play structures.

Funding

The Alberta government has committed a maximum of $15 million over 2 years for the Inclusive Spaces Program Grant from 2024 to 2026. Funding is awarded based on eligible project costs, and funding amounts are determined by project size and complexity.

Successful applicants will receive grant funds in installments:

  • Half of the project funds will be provided up front, so projects can begin immediately.
  • The remaining funds will be provided when the applicant submits their final report to Education and Childcare.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are existing licensed non-profit, public and private programs, including:

  • daycares
  • preschools
  • family day home agencies (proposed renovations to family day home educators’ residences may require further review to ensure alignment with intended funding)

Additional conditions:

  • out-of-school care programs are not eligible
  • funding cannot be used for new spaces or expansions
  • projects must identify the vulnerable and/or diverse communities they will support
