Get involved
We are resuming engagement on draft K to 6 social studies curriculum through a comprehensive and phased approach.
Preliminary engagement
We are gathering information about what Albertans would like students to learn in the social studies curriculum.
Albertans can provide input by using the discussion guide (PDF, 74 KB) and Curriculum Engagement presentation (PDF, 178 KB) to facilitate conversations about social studies curriculum and complete the survey by October 16, 2023.
We will use the survey results to inform draft K to 6 social studies curriculum before it is released to the public for further engagement in winter 2024.

Targeted engagement
This fall, we will meet with diverse education partners, teachers, multicultural organizations, Indigenous and francophone communities and other education specialists to inform development of the scope and sequence of K to 12 social studies curriculum, and the content of draft K to 6 social studies curriculum.
Public engagement
In winter 2024, Albertans will have the opportunity to provide feedback on key learnings within K to 12 social studies curriculum and view the draft K to 6 social studies curriculum to provide additional feedback.
More details about public engagement opportunities will be shared as they become available.
Classroom piloting
In the 2024-25 school year, teachers will have an opportunity to pilot revised draft K to 6 social studies curriculum in classrooms and provide further feedback.
We will carefully consider feedback from all engagement activities and classroom piloting, as well as research and best practices, to finalize the new social studies curriculum.
Input received
Between March 2021 and February 2023, we heard valuable insights on the draft K to 6 curriculum through an online survey, feedback form, virtual engagement sessions, partner organization engagements and classroom piloting.
