A wildfire of note is determined to be of significant public interest and may pose a threat to public safety, communities or critical infrastructure.

Red Earth East Complex

The Red Earth East complex is composed of 10 wildfires centered in the northeastern portion of the Slave Lake Forest Area. 

  • SWF092 near Red Earth Creek and Loon Lake First Nation, is classified as out of control and is 79,577 hectares (ha).
  • SWF100 on the west side of Peerless Lake along Highway 686, is classified as out of control and is 18,347 ha.

Firefighters continue to extinguish hot spots and reinforce containment lines on these wildfires with the help of heavy equipment and helicopters. 

Evacuation orders

The following communities remain under and evacuation order:

  • Chipewyan Lake
  • Peerless and Trout Lake

The following communities remain on a 2-hour evacuation alert.

  • Red Earth Creek
  • Loon River First Nation

Sousa Creek Complex

The Sousa Creek Complex is composed of wildfires HWF036, HBZ001 and HBZ002. None of these wildfires pose a threat to communities. 

  • HWF036, south of Chateh and east of Rainbow Lake, is classified as out of control and estimated at 52,672 ha in size. Fire activity is low and the wildfire has not grown recently. Firefighters continue to reinforce containment lines with the support of heavy equipment and helicopters.
  • HBZ001 is being held at 87,549 ha. HBZ002 is out of control at 12,373 ha. Both wildfires are burning along the Alberta and B.C. border. Firefighters are working to contain them.

Slims Creek wildfire (PWF050)

The Slims Creek wildfire is 30 km north of the town of Manning. It is classified as out of control and estimated to be 20,230 ha in size. Firefighters, heavy equipment and helicopters continue work to contain the wildfire. There is no threat to communities. 

Caribou Lake wildfire (LWF090)

The Caribou Lake wildfire (LWF090) is burning 17 km southeast of Conklin and 28 km south of the Janvier airstrip. It is classified as out of control and estimated to be 67,894 ha in size. Firefighters are working on containing the wildfire with the help of heavy equipment and helicopters. There is no threat to communities.
