How to apply
Step 1. Make sure you are applying for the right program
Look at the supports and services available through the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program.
Step 2. Decide if PDD is right for you
Review the eligibility criteria to help you better understand the general eligibility requirements for PDD and decide if the PDD program is right for you. You can also check your eligibility at the start of the application.
If you are unsure about your eligibility, you can still complete and submit your application, or contact Alberta Supports to find out more information.
Step 3. Fill out the application
You can complete the application online and submit it.
Use the online application at pdd.alberta.ca by:
- creating a secure account, if you do not have one
- choosing the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) application
- filling it out online
- submitting documentation

Step 4. Provide extra documentation if needed
A PDD worker may need more information to decide if you are eligible for the program. They may ask you to find and send documentation that support your application, such as:
- documentation to show your age and citizenship, such as a:
- birth certificate or record of birth
- permanent resident or citizenship card
- record of landing
- passport
- an assessment report confirming your developmental disability, or
- a letter or documentation with information about your developmental disability from your school or a doctor or specialist
- documentation for other programs you are involved in, such as:
- Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD)
- Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH)
- Alberta Aids to Daily Living
After you apply
A PDD worker will review the documentation you provided and will connect with you to collect more information. They may request other relevant documentation if required.
If you are eligible
Your PDD worker will connect with you and your support team to:
- confirm your eligibility and to schedule a time to begin the planning process
If you are not eligible
The PDD worker will connect with you and your support team to:
- explain why you are not eligible
- give you information about other Alberta government programs and services you may be eligible for
- provide information about other supports in your community
- tell you and your support team about ways to resolve concerns you may have about your eligibility decision
