Land surveys

This unit is responsible for coordinating the establishment, maintenance and preservation of Alberta’s land survey system.

Services and information

The Director of Surveys is a land surveyor designated by the Minister of Alberta Environment and Parks to administer the Surveys Act.

The Alberta government has scanned microfilms and paper copies of field books full of historical survey data about our township system.

The Geodetic Control Unit manages the Alberta Survey Control network within the framework of the Canadian Spatial Reference System (CSRS).

The Director of Surveys office provides a variety of products for use in land surveying.

Alberta Environment and Parks’ Surveys Section is continually updating and revising township records.

Alberta Environment and Parks’ Surveys Section approves and stores the province’s wellsite traverse survey plans.
