Application deadlines are April 1 and October 1.

Overview

Grants are available for organizations that help victims of crime during their involvement with the criminal justice process.

These programs must provide information, support and referrals in either:

  • police-based programs working with the municipal police, RCMP or Indigenous police services
  • community-based programs providing services that address a specific type of crime or victim

Funding

  • Both police and community based programs can apply for up to $150,000 a year.
  • These funds must be used for program-operating costs.
  • Priority is given to police-based programs.

Eligible programs

Eligible programs must be operated by one of the following:

Police-based programs

  • a non-profit organization with corporate legal status acting as a governing body for a police-based victim services unit
  • municipalities (including bands and tribal councils for Indigenous communities) acting as a governing body for a police-based victim services unit, or as the signing authority for a police service

Community-based programs

  • a non-profit organization with corporate legal status
  • a community-based coalition or network
    • an incorporated fiscal agent who’s part of the coalition or network must be identified in the application
  • Indigenous communities, including bands and tribal councils, acting as the governing body for a victim services unit

How to apply

Applications are not currently being accepted.

After you apply

Your application will be reviewed and you will receive a written reply within 6 months explaining if your application is:

  • approved
  • approved with conditions, a different amount, or a different grant term
  • denied

Reporting requirements

If your application is approved, your organization enters into a grant agreement with the Alberta government.

As part of the agreement, you must submit financial reports and program reports throughout the grant term. These reports include:

Quarterly reports

Report due dates

Reports are due on the 15th of each month after each quarter ends:

  • January–March: due April 15
  • April–June: due July 15
  • July–September: due October 15
  • October–December: due January 15

Police-based programs

Police-based programs have to fill out both the Quarterly Report form (Part A) (XLSX, 38 KB) and Part B (XLSX, 20 KB).

Community-based programs

Community-based programs that offer frontline service will have to fill out the Quarterly Report form (XLSX, 1.1 MB).

Annual Progress Reports

For multi-year (3 year) grant recipients an Annual Progress Report is required after the first and second year of their grant term. The report must be submitted before the next payment is released, and must include these documents:

  • financial statements
  • Actuals Financial Report
  • annual report/annual general meeting minutes (if applicable)
  • updated board member list (if applicable)

Program Evaluation Report

Program Evaluation Reports are due 90 days after the grant term ends and must include these documents:
