A fundraising business is one that makes, manages, or is responsible for solicitations on behalf of a charitable organization. It provides these services for remuneration and is not an employee of the charitable organization.
A fundraising business could also include one that:
- is hired by another business to make, manage, or be responsible for solicitations on behalf of a charitable organization
- is not an employee of the other business
If your business does not require this licence, you do not need to proceed further.
How to apply
You will need to provide:
- information on your business
- a criminal record check or police information check
- a security amount
- a copy of a standard fundraising agreement
- payment of a licensing fee

Application for a Fundraising Business Licence (PDF, 125 KB)
Licence holders must notify Service Alberta in writing within 30 days of a change in:
- operating name, full legal name and address
- address of its registered office in Alberta
- names, addresses and titles of its officers and directors
It is your responsibility to ensure your licence is in force as long as you continue to do business. Once your licence is issued, note the expiry date and ensure your licence is renewed prior to this date.
A licensed fundraising business must maintain complete and accurate records of all its operations in Alberta for at least 3 years after the solicitations are made.
Note: applicant, directors, officers or partners are required to read the Charitable Fundraising Act and regulations associated with this licence and understand that certain sections are of significance, including but not limited to the specific sections noted below.
