  • The second intake will open in January 2027.
  • The third intake will open in January 2028.

Overview

The Emergency Family Violence Services Facility Grant Pilot Program is designed to help women’s shelters address critical capital needs while introducing a more structured and evidence-based approach to capital planning and investment. By prioritizing significant facility risks and renewal needs, funding can be directed where it is needed most while supporting better long-term planning and decision-making.

Funding

The Emergency Family Violence Services Facility Grant Pilot Program will invest $4 million over 3 years to support capital renewal and maintenance projects at eligible CFS-supported women's shelters across Alberta.

Successful applicants may request between $5,000 and $50,000 per project for the first intake, and the upper limit is planned to increase in subsequent 2027 and 2028 intakes, to $150,000 and $200,000, respectively. Funding must be used for approved project activities and expenses that directly support project objectives and outcomes.

Funding is not intended to support ongoing operational costs or activities already funded through other government programs.

Eligibility

To receive a grant, applicants must:

  • be a CFS-supported women's shelter currently funded through the Emergency Family Violence Services program
  • submit projects that improve the condition, safety, functionality, and sustainability of eligible shelter facilities

Applications from organizations that are not currently funded through the Emergency Family Violence Services program are not eligible.

How to apply

Eligible CFS-supported women’s shelters will receive the Facility Grant Pilot Program guidelines and application form from CFS directly.

Applicants will be supported throughout the intake.
