Overview
A waste management facility is defined by the type of waste that is accepted, and the processes used to handle and treat the accepted wastes.
The Alberta government has developed legislation and guidance documents for several common waste management facility types including:
- Composting facilities
- Hazardous facilities
- Hydrovac facilities
- Landfills
- Transfer stations
- Waste to energy facilities
Setbacks and financial security
All waste management facilities must meet requirements under the Activities Designation Regulation as well as setback distances under the Subdivision and Development Regulation. Waste facilities that need to be registered or approved must also post financial security as required by the Waste Control Regulation.
Online waste measurement system
The online waste measurement system does not replace the annual reporting obligations outlined in in waste management facility authorizations but it does provide a consistent format to allow the information to be consolidated and used for policy development.
You can use this Waste Measurement System Materials Management Report Form to submit your facility’s waste disposal data before March 31 to: [email protected].
