Join a Regional Advisory Council - Health

Interested in shaping health care in your community? Apply to become a Regional Advisory Council member.

Albertans can apply for advisory council vacancies. New members will be appointed in early 2026.

Become a member 

Council members are community-minded Albertans committed to improving health care in their region. Members represent a wide range of perspectives and lived and professional experiences. Members are assigned to their region’s councils.
 

  • Eligibility

    All council members must be 18 years or older and Alberta residents.

    Members must:

    • be able to engage with their community
    • understand the needs of their region
    • prepare for, attend, and participate in council meetings
    • be willing to consider diverse perspectives
    • provide advice to the health ministries on issues affecting their community
  • Skills and experience

    Members should:

    • have experience volunteering or working in their community
    • demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of Alberta’s health care system
    • have strong communication skills
    • be able to cultivate respectful relationships and demonstrate integrity, impartiality, collaboration, and inclusivity  
    • have respect for the beliefs and traditions of others
    • discourage behaviours or practices that may be perceived as unfair, biased, or critical towards others
  • Time commitment

    • 4 to 6 meetings per year.
    • A mix of virtual and in-person meetings.
    • There may be other commitments outside of council meetings, such as taking part in community engagements and preparing for meetings.

  • Term length

    Members will be appointed for a term of up to 3 years.

How to apply

Albertans can apply at any time to join a council. Member appointments typically happen in January and February, or as needed to fill openings.

  • Step 2: Submit an application

    • Send an email to [email protected], provide your resume and contact information.
    • Suitable applicants will be contacted for an interview.
    • Successful applicants will be appointed to one of the councils in their region.
    • Successful applicants for the Indigenous Advisory Council may also be appointed to a Regional Advisory Council based on the region.
    • The names and biographies of council members and chairs are published on the council’s website.
