Overview
Infrastructure is a critical part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan as a key driver of our economy, public services and government’s finances.
In summer 2020, we invited Albertans to get involved in ensuring the province has the right infrastructure in place to meet future needs. Your input was used to inform development of the Infrastructure Accountability Act and the 20-Year Strategic Capital Plan.
The act will guide how government prioritizes capital planning and spending, while the plan will help guide government’s infrastructure decisions over the long-term. This includes all types of infrastructure supported by the provincial government, including:
- schools, universities and colleges
- healthcare facilities
- roads and bridges
- rural broadband and irrigation projects
- infrastructure that supports natural resource development
Input received
Thank you for your input.
More than 3,200 submissions were provided by Albertans through an online survey or by email from June 22 to August 10, 2020.
Outcomes
Your input has helped inform the development of the Infrastructure Accountability Act and the 20-Year Strategic Capital Plan, creating a transparent vision for planning and prioritizing capital projects.
Bill 73, the Infrastructure Accountability Act came into force on December 8, 2021. The 20-Year Strategic Capital Plan, which must be published within one year of the act coming into force, was released December 16, 2021.
