Overview
The Hinton Training Centre (HTC) opened in 1960 as a facility for training forestry officers responsible for ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of Alberta’s natural resources. The centre sits on 14 hectares in the middle of Hinton, approximately 80 km east of Jasper town site located within Jasper National Park. It includes:
- academic building with training facilities
- 2 residences with accommodation for 166
- food services for up to 234 participants
- gymnasium and fitness room
- wildfire lookout and rappel towers
- garage and warehouse
- self-guided museum and interpretive trail
- Alberta wildfire memorial
- research spaces, labs and offices
- disaster reception and operations centre for the Town of Hinton and West Yellowhead
- regional provincial operations centre for coordination of regional emergencies
Training centre attendees are usually Government of Alberta employees, contractors or attendees sponsored by a forest area with previous education or experience. Organizations may enquire about booking. Government of Alberta forestry-related programs and events have priority.

Weekdays, check in between 8:15 am and 9 pm (after 4:30 pm, call 780-865-6999 for assistance). Check out is 8 am.
Note: On weekends, check in times vary, please refer to your course confirmation email for details.
