“On World Mental Health Day, we recognize the importance of mental well-being and stand with every Albertan who may be facing mental health challenges. Whether someone is living with anxiety, depression or other mental health concerns, no one should have to face those struggles alone.

“Mental health affects many aspects of our lives, our relationships, our workplaces and our communities. While anyone can experience mental health challenges, reaching out for support is a sign of strength and help is available.

“Through the Alberta Recovery Model, Alberta’s government continues to expand access to services that help Albertans improve their mental health, while reducing barriers to care. We’re making it easier for Albertans to get help by partnering with community-based mental health services and prevention initiatives across Alberta, including peer support programs, rural mental health services and suicide prevention education. We’re also expanding specialized care for eating disorders, and making counselling more affordable and accessible through Counselling Alberta.

“A key part of this work is making sure children and youth have access to mental health supports when they need them. This includes funding new youth facilities through CASA Mental Health, supporting school-based initiatives through the Integrated School Support Program, expanding youth mental health hubs, and continuing our partnership with Kids Help Phone.

“Struggles with mental health and addiction can often happen at the same time. That’s why we continue to strengthen the supports available to Albertans experiencing addiction, including new specialized services for those struggling with gambling addiction and their families. Albertans facing these challenges deserve the same compassion, understanding and access to support as anyone facing other health concerns.

“World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to encourage open conversations and remind us that help is available. If you or someone you love needs support, call or text 211 or visit ab.211.ca to connect with services in your community.”
