The fire danger is high in the Edson Forest Area, due to hot and windy conditions. Although some regions received rain, it was not widespread and vegetation is drying out. A wildfire can ignite easily and spread quickly in these conditions. Please be cautious if you are spending time outdoors.

Wildfire west of Mercoal (EWF030)
Alberta Wildfire firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment operators continue to respond to wildfire EWF030, located 6 km west of Mercoal and 16 km southwest of Robb. Firefighters didn't see much fire activity or growth today. The wildfire remains classified as out of control and approximately 393 hectares in size.
Cooler temperatures and cloud cover helped lower the fire's intensity, despite the wind. Firefighters, heavy equipment and airtankers made good progress on the containment lines. Yellowhead County Fire Department (YCFD) firefighters began setting up structural protection on residences yesterday and are setting up additional sprinkler systems today and tomorrow morning in Mercoal. They will then work on structures in the Robb area.
Higher temperatures and lower relative humidity are expected tomorrow, which could create more intense fire behavior. Firefighters will return in the morning to work on containing the wildfire. Airtankers are available if required.
Airtankers completed their objectives today, assisting firefighters in containing EWF030 (May 26, 2025)
