Important
If you receive AISH or ADAP you must inform the program on the outcome of your application for the Canada Disability Benefit and/or Disability Tax Credit. To provide your update, complete the form below and submit supporting documents to your local Alberta Supports office.
Overview
As outlined in the AISH and ADAP legislation, to be eligible for AISH and ADAP, you and your spouse or partner must apply for all other government programs and income you may be eligible for, including federal programs.
Canada Disability Benefit
The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is a federal disability benefit program that provides up to $200 per month to eligible Canadians with disabilities aged 18 to 64. This program launched in July 2025.
- In order to be eligible for the CDB, applicants must first apply and be approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC).

Disability Tax Credit
The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit that helps Canadians with severe and prolonged impairments, or their supporting family members, reduce their income tax.
- In order to apply for the DTC, applicants must file their taxes and have a medical practitioner complete the medical portion of the application form.
- A medical practitioner may charge DTC applicants a fee for completing the medical portion of the application form.

Financial aid for medical assessments
The federal government has announced its intention to provide a one-time supplemental CDB payment of $150 by March 2027 to offset the cost of the DTC medical assessment for all individuals approved for the CDB.
If the upfront cost of the medical assessment is a barrier to applying, contact your AISH or ADAP worker.
The AISH and ADAP program will cover the cost of the DTC medical assessment for eligible clients to support their access to the CDB. Payment requests should be supported by an invoice or cost estimate from a medical professional. Upon approval, the AISH program will issue a supplemental benefit to the client, and the client will be responsible for paying the medical professional. AISH clients will be required to repay the AISH program upon reimbursement from the federal government.
If you were denied the DTC eligibility prior to 2025, you are required to reapply, as the federal government significantly broadened the eligibility criteria in 2025.
Actions AISH and ADAP recipients need to take
You must update the program on the outcome of your CDB application and/or DTC application including:
