Community and Social Support Appeals

Independent panels where Albertans can appeal government decisions on community and social services and benefits they apply for or receive.

Clients transitioning to Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) will receive a $200 monthly transition until December 31, 2027. Clients can remain on ADAP or apply for AISH beginning in July 2026. Costs for one medical assessment for current AISH clients will be covered.

Appealing a decision

An appeal is a formal process in which you ask an independent, neutral panel to review a specific government decision about the services you received. The panel has the authority to change the decision or to confirm that it was correct.

Albertans may appeal decisions from the following programs. For more information about the appeal process for your program, select the appropriate link below:

About the Appeal Panels

Alberta’s social services appeal system is independent and committed to fair and unbiased decision-making.

Appeals are heard by independent panels made up of citizens and qualified professionals with the training to hear your appeal. Panels review the information provided by all parties and make decisions based on the legislation that applies to each case.

The type of decision being appealed determines which panel reviews your case:

  • Citizen’s Appeal Panel (CAP)

The Citizen’s Appeal Panel (CAP) hears appeals across a range of social service programs. Decisions that can be appealed vary by program and may include decisions about financial eligibility and general program eligibility.

  • Medical Appeal Panel (MAP)

The Medical Appeal Panel (MAP) hears appeals related to ADAP medical eligibility, including severe disability determinations and decisions to not refer applicants to the AISH Medical Review Panel.

The Appeals Secretariat

The Appeals Secretariat supports the appeal process and helps Albertans navigate it. The Secretariat:

  • receives and processes appeals
  • schedules hearings
  • communicates with all parties throughout the process
  • helps ensure participants have the information they need to take part
