“Alberta’s government is proud to be celebrating recovery month this September alongside the many Albertans who have walked or are on the path to recovery. This is the eighth year we have celebrated Recovery Month – reminding anyone who is struggling with addiction or mental health challenges that recovery is possible and help is available.

“Alberta is leading the way with the Alberta Recovery Model, being recognized as a leader in compassionate, evidence-based care. Since 2019, we have focused on increasing access to treatment, removing barriers to care and building better futures for Albertans.

“A key part of this work is expanding the infrastructure needed for treatment and recovery services. Six recovery communities are now open across Alberta, including two developed in partnership with Indigenous communities. Three more additional Indigenous-led recovery communities are underway, which will expand culturally grounded addiction treatment options across the province.

“We’re building compassionate intervention centres to help people experiencing the most severe forms of substance abuse get the care they need and set them on the road to recovery. At the same time, we’re developing specialized facilities for youth so young Albertans can get the support they need in safe, recovery-focused settings.

“In the next three years, as these and other facilities come online, the number of new treatment and recovery-oriented beds added to the system will reach over 1,000 – a truly remarkable number.

“We’re proud of the momentum underway and the partnerships we are building across the province. Thank you to the front-line workers, recovery advocates, Indigenous partners, community organizations and families whose dedication is making a meaningful difference in the lives of Albertans across the province. From urban centres to rural communities, Albertans are experiencing the benefits of a system that is better connected, more responsive and fully focused on recovery.

“If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Call or text 211 or visit ab.211.ca to connect with mental health and addiction services in Alberta. It is free, confidential and available 24-7.”
