Employer fees are illegal

Employers and employment agencies cannot charge employees fees for a job or employment offer. If an employer is charging you a fee of any kind we can help. Call the Alberta government information line at 310-0000 and ask for Employment Standards or the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office.

Introduction

The Alberta Opportunity Stream is for temporary foreign workers who are already working full-time in Alberta and have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation. Candidates must have a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or hold one of the accepted LMIA exemption work permits. Candidates must also meet other minimum eligibility criteria for residency and work permit type, occupation, language, education, Alberta job offer and work experience.

Candidates apply on their own using the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program portal. Learn more about eligibility criteria, how to apply, and what to do after you are nominated.

Recent changes

On April 3, 2023, the AAIP made 5 changes to the program so Alberta can be even more competitive in attracting and keeping skilled and in-demand workers and entrepreneurs, including introducing the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway under the Alberta Express Entry Stream and reducing the minimum investment amount required under the Rural Entrepreneur Stream.
