There are 7 wildfires of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. 

Edith Lake Wildfire (SWF076)

Wildfire SWF076 is located about 7 km north of Swan Hills near Edith Lake. This wildfire is currently classified as out of control and about 17,573 hectares (ha) in size. 

An incident management team alongside firefighters, helicopters, airtankers, and heavy equipment are working to suppress this wildfire by establishing a fire guard along the south, west and east side of the perimeter. Heavy equipment worked through the night and conditions allowed for good progress on containment lines along the east side of the wildfire.

Red Earth East Complex

A number of wildfires make up the Red Earth East Complex located near the community of Chipewyan Lake and Peerless Lake. Heavy equipment, crews, airtankers and helicopters faced challenging conditions yesterday given the weather conditions. This complex experienced significant growth due to very strong winds. An incident management team is now in place to manage this complex.

These wildfires are all classified as out of control. 

Wildfire SWF095 located east of Peerless Trout First Nation

The wildfire is located 11 km from Trout Lake. It is 50 ha in size and classified as out of control. Crews, heavy equipment, and helicopters are working the wildfire.

Caribou Lake Fire near Lake Winefred (LWF090)

Wildfire LWF090 is located roughly 4.6 km southwest of Winefred Lake. The wildfire is currently listed as out of control at approximately 68,000 ha.

This wildfire experienced significant growth due to the windy conditions yesterday. This wildfire continues to be very active today. Wildfire crews, airtankers, helicopters and heavy equipment are assigned to this wildfire. 

The wildfire is presently 20 km southeast of Conklin – the community has been placed under a wildfire alert.

Wildfire south of Peers (EWF036)

Wildfire EWF036 is located less than 1 km southeast of Peers on the east and west side of highway 32. The wildfire is currently classified as out of control and about 285 hectares in size.

Firefighters along with the Yellowhead County Fire Department are responding to this wildfire. Firefighters worked late into the evening with night operation helicopters on this wildfire.

Yellowhead County has issued an evacuation order for Peers and surrounding area. 

Wildfire east of Rainbow Lake (HWF036)

Wildfire HWF036 is located approximately 31 km east of the Town of Rainbow Lake. This wildfire has increased significantly in size and is now estimated to be 10,000 ha. An evacuation order has been issued for the community of Chetah.

SWF078 near Whitefish Lake First Nation

Wildfire SWF078 is currently classified as out of control at 163 ha. It is located roughly 3 km north of Whitefish Lake First Nation. 

Firefighters, heavy equipment and helicopters are responding to this wildfire. The fire is currently burning away from the community. An evacuation advisory is in place for the community if the conditions escalate.
