There are 7 wildfires of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. 

Edith Lake Wildfire (SWF076)

Wildfire SWF076 is located about 7 km north of Swan Hills near Edith Lake. This wildfire is currently classified as out of control and about 7,157 hectares (ha) in size. 

Firefighters, helicopters, airtankers, and heavy equipment operators are working to suppress this wildfire by establishing a fire guard along the south, west and east side of the perimeter. 

Red Earth East Complex

A number of wildfires make up the Red Earth East Complex located near the community of Chipewyan Lake. Heavy equipment, crews, airtankers and helicopters faced challenging conditions today given the weather conditions.

Wildfire SWF095 located east of Peerless Trout First Nation

The wildfire is located 11 km from Trout Lake. It is 50 ha in size and classified as out of control. Crews, heavy equipment, and helicopters are working the wildfire.

Wildfire west of Mercoal (EWF030)

Wildfire EWF030 is located 6 km west of Mercoal and 16 km southwest of Robb. The wildfire is currently classified as out of control and about 224 hectares in size.

Firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment operators have made good progress on establishing containment lines and are continuing efforts to suppress this wildfire along the eastern side. This wildfire showed minimal growth overnight.

SWF078 near Whitefish Lake First Nation

Wildfire SWF078 is currently classified as out of control. It is roughly 5 km from Highway 88 and about 163 hectares in size.

Night vision helicopters supported airtankers, crews and heavy equipment last evening. A Dozer guard has been started along the east and west flanks of the wildfire.

SWF088 near Marten Beach

Wildfire SWF088 is currently classified as out of control at 163 ha. It is located roughly 25 km NW of Marten Beach. 

Wildfire has crossed the Highway 88 and the roadway has been closed at Highway 754 north of Slave Lake.

Caribou Lake Fire near Lake Winefred (LWF090)

Wildfire LWF090 is located roughly 17 km southwest of Winefred and Grist Lakes. The wildfire is currently listed as out of control at 12,225 ha.

Both Winefred and Grist Lakes have recreational fishing lodges present. There is oil and gas infrastructure located within 20 km of both the north and south perimeter of the wildfire.

Wildfire crews, airtankers, helicopters and heavy equipment are assigned to this wildfire. 

The wildfire is presently 30 km southeast of Conklin – the community has been placed under a wildfire alert.
