Wildfire WWF017

Yesterday firefighters responded to reports of a wildfire southeast of the Town of Whitecourt. Wildfire (WWF017) is currently estimated at 51 hectares in size and still classified as out of control. Windy conditions yesterday pushed this wildfire away from the Town of Whitecourt and it currently remains south of Highway 43.

Night-vision equipped helicopters along with firefighters and heavy equipment worked overnight when fire behavior is typically less active. Firefighters and equipment are making good progress on a containment line around the fire. Structural protection has been deployed to protect homes and critical infrastructure in the area. Conditions are expected to be more subdued today with less wind. Firefighters will continue working on reinforcing containment lines alongside Woodlands County, Yellowhead County, Lac Ste. Anne County, and the Town of Whitecourt Fire Department.
