Wildfire WWF017
At approximately 3 p.m. today, firefighters responded to reports of a wildfire southeast of the Town of Whitecourt.
The wildfire is currently estimated at 55 hectares in size and is classified as out of control. Westerly winds are pushing the fire eastward, away from the Town of Whitecourt.
Alberta Wildfire is responding alongside Woodlands County, Yellowhead County, Lac Ste. Anne County, and the Town of Whitecourt Fire Department. Crews are working closely with municipal partners to share wildfire behaviour information and ensure a coordinated response.
Helicopters, airtankers, and wildfire crews are actively working on the fire. Additional resources are being mobilized, and municipal structure protection units have been deployed to support operations.
Night vision helicopters and heavy equipment will continue operating overnight as efforts continue to manage the wildfire.
