The following communities remain under and evacuation order:

  • Chipewyan Lake;
  • Peerless Lake;
  • Trout Lake;
  • Red Earth Creek; and
  • Loon River First Nation.

Increased wildfire activity on the complex today ad temperatures continue to warm up. Heavy equipment, helicopters, airtankers, and firefighters worked to limit the spread of wildfire SWF092 yesterday. Firefighters will continue working on hot spots on this wildfire today.

Tulip Lake (MWF026)

This wildfire is currently classified as out of control and is estimated at approximately 14,152 ha. It is burning 15 km northeast of Fort Fitzgerald and 28 km east of Fort Smith.

Recent rain and cooler temperatures helped to lower fire behaviour today. This has allowed crews to make progress on containment lines. Crews, heavy equipment, helicopters, and airtankers are continuing suppression efforts and reinforcement of containment lines.

Kiskatinaw River Wildfire - near Kelly Lake, B.C. (GBZ001)

The wildfire has crossed into Alberta. This wildfire is currently estimated at 13,061 ha in size.

Winds from the south and southeast between 1 am and 3 am increased fire behaviour overnight, particularly on the northeast corner of the fire. Despite these conditions, the north side of the fire held. Night-vision helicopters remained active throughout the night, conducting bucketing operations to help limit the fire spread.

Hot, dry, and windy conditions today are expected to lead to extreme and unpredictable fire behaviour. Today is expected to bring challenging conditions for firefighters. Alberta Wildfire continues to work closely with B.C. Wildfire Service and the County of Grande Prairie to respond to this wildfire.

Slims Creek (PWF050)

This wildfire is located 5 km west of Highway 35 and 3 km northwest of the Twin Lakes Provincial Recreation Area and is estimated to be 4,876 ha in size. This wildfire grew significantly yesterday due to windy conditions. Airtankers, ground crews, heavy equipment and helicopters continue to work on this wildfire today. Smoke in the area is limiting air operations due to visibility. The County of Northern Lights has issued a wildfire alert for residents north of Hawk Hills and around the Twin Lakes Provincial Park.

Southwesterly winds today may cause a disruption of Highway 35 today due to smoke or fire. Travellers could experience delays or intermittent closures and are encouraged to check Alberta 511 for updates.

Sousa Creek (HWF036)

HWF036 is approximately 5 km south of the community of Chateh, 72 km west of the Town of High Level, and 27 km east of the Town of Rainbow Lake. This wildfire is estimated at 41,242 ha in size.

Firefighters, helicopters, and heavy equipment continue to work the perimeter near Sousa Creek.  Firefighters with helicopter support will continue to work on reinforcing containment lines. Night operations supported this wildfire last night.

Travellers on Highway 58 could experience delays or intermittent closures and are encouraged to check Alberta 511 for updates.

Caribou Lake (LWF090)

Caribou Lake Wildfire (LWF090) is currently burning out of control and is an estimated 66,845 ha in size.

Alberta Wildfire had crews working overnight on the northwest side of the wildfire. Today, crews will continue to focus on the north and south sides of the wildfire, which are the closest to infrastructure.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has put an evacuation alert in place for the hamlet of Conklin.

Blue Sky (SWF088)

This wildfire remains classified as out of control at an estimated 10,448 ha. It is located approximately 25 km north of Marten Beach and 3.5 km southeast of Utikuma.

While overall fire behaviour remains low, some increased activity was observed on the north and east sides of the wildfire. In response, helicopters and airtankers were deployed to suppress hot spots, while heavy equipment continued constructing containment lines and firefighters were extinguishing hot spots.
