Summer student opportunities

Post-secondary students returning to school in the fall can apply for summer positions to gain workplace skills and career experience.

The APS is looking for motivated, energetic and self-starting summer students who are interested in developing valuable workplace skills and building a career through employment with the Alberta Public Service.

In a supportive and supervised environment, you will gain practical experience in important aspects of work for a variety of program, policy, or corporate teams.

Students are offered wage employment by a ministry or department with the opportunity to:

  • learn about the Alberta Public Service
  • develop workplace skills
  • gain career-related experience

Summer students are typically hired for a period of 2 to 4 months and provide assistance or support to various types of work. Opportunities typically begin in May and end in August.

To be eligible for student summer employment, individuals must be:

  • legally entitled to work in Canada
  • enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution or just recently graduated within the last 6 months
  • returning to academic studies in September
