The fire danger in the Slave Lake Forest Area is now high due to increased temperatures and dry conditions. Dry grass and vegetation can ignite easily and spread quickly in windy conditions. If you are spending time outdoors, use caution to prevent wildfires.
Hazard reduction burning
Wildland firefighters in the Slave Lake Forest Area will continue hazard reduction burns today, May 11, to remove dry, flammable grass. These burns may take place at various times over the next few weeks under specific weather conditions to remain controlled and limit smoke impacts on nearby communities and roadways. The work is intended to reduce wildfire risk and protect communities.

Since January 1, 2026, there have been 14 wildfires reported in the Slave Lake Forest Area.
There are 7 wildfires from 2025 that are still active. All 7 wildfires are under control.

Red Earth East Complex
The Red Earth East Complex includes 5 under control wildfires, located east of Highway 88.
These large wildfires will take time to fully extinguish. At this time, there is no threat to nearby communities.
