“I am honoured to recognize Canadian Armed Forces Day and reflect on the remarkable contributions of the men and women who protect our nation and its freedoms, as well as the families and loved ones who stand beside them.

“Alberta is proud of its storied military history, which dates back more than a century, and we are fortunate to have so many servicepeople living in our communities. Whether supporting partners overseas or aiding in the response to wildfires and floods in Alberta, they have demonstrated exceptional bravery, dedication and resilience time and time again, cementing the Canadian Armed Forces’ reputation as an invaluable ally both at home and abroad.

“This year, we reflect on two significant anniversaries that have helped Canada earn the respect of nations across the globe. The year 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of Canada’s first major North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) deployment, when the 27th Canadian Infantry Brigade went to Europe during the early Cold War. It also marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and Canada’s participation in the subsequent Afghanistan mission. Both of these events reflect a nationwide commitment to collective security, peace and stability around the world.

“In recognition of their contributions, members and veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, and their immediate families, receive free admission to provincially owned historic sites, museums and interpretive centres with their CF One card.

“On behalf of the Government of Alberta, I offer my deepest gratitude to all current and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Your service has made your province and country endlessly proud.”
