Fire danger across the Slave Lake Forest Area is now low following recent precipitation. Despite this, wildfires can still start and it remains important to use caution during outdoor activities.
Wildfire situation
There are no active wildfires in the Slave Lake Forest Area.
Since January 1, 2026, the Slave Lake Forest Area has responded to 61 wildfires and approximately 41 hectares have burned.

By adjusting settings and layers on the dashboard, you can also view forest area boundaries, active fire advisories, restrictions and bans, wildfire danger ratings and much more.
Fire permits are required
From March 1 to October 31, fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.
Fire permits are free and can be requested online. Visit firepermits.alberta.ca to request your fire permit online. You may also request your fire permit by calling the local Forestry office at:

Campfire safety
Before heading outdoors, check Alberta Fire Bans for current fire advisories, restrictions and bans. Keep campfires within a proper fire ring on a non-combustible surface, never leave a fire unattended and always keep water nearby.
When extinguishing a campfire, soak it, stir it and soak it again until it is cool to the touch.
OHV safety
When riding an off-highway vehicle (OHV) in a forested area, stop often and remove the debris that accumulates on your machine. Grass heated by your exhaust can start a wildfire when it falls to the ground.
