The wildfire danger across the Slave Lake Forest Area is low. Wildfires can still start in cold and snowy conditions. Be cautious if you’re spending time or working outdoors.
Hazard reduction burning
Wildland firefighters in the Slave Lake Forest Area may begin hazard reduction burns today, April 29, to remove dry, flammable grass. These burns may take place at various times over the next few weeks under specific weather conditions to remain controlled and limit smoke impacts on nearby communities and roadways. The work is intended to reduce wildfire risk and protect communities.
Night vision helicopter training
Residents in the Slave Lake area may notice increased helicopter activity at night over the next week. Operators will be conducting training exercises using night-vision-equipped helicopters. This training helps ensure operators are well prepared and familiar with the equipment and procedures needed for effective nighttime response.

Since January 1, 2026 there have been no new wildfires reported in the Slave Lake Forest Area.
There are 7 wildfires from 2025 that are still active. All 7 wildfires are under control.

Red Earth East Complex
The Red Earth East Complex includes 5 under control wildfires, located east of Highway 88.
These large wildfires will take time to fully extinguish. At this time, there is no threat to nearby communities.
