If you have received a Notice of Administrative Penalty under the Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS) program or a Seizure Notice, you can use the SafeRoads portal to manage your notice.

Services offered

You can access the following services through the SafeRoads portal:

  • Apply for an IRS review

    To apply for an IRS review, you must:

    • apply within 7 days of the issuance of the Notice of Administrative Penalty online
    • choose if you want a written or oral review
    • select a date and time for your review (must be within 21 days of the date of issuance of your notice)
    • provide your preferred contact method and contact information
    • agree to the terms and conditions
    • pay the non-refundable application fee of $150

  • Apply for a Suspended Driver Program vehicle seizure review

    To apply for a review of a vehicle seized under the Suspended Driver Program, you must:

    • apply within 7 days of the issuance of the Seizure Notice online
    • select a date for your review
    • provide your contact information for preferred method of contact
    • agree to the terms and conditions
    • pay the non-refundable application fee of $150

  • Apply for an affected person vehicle seizure review

    To apply for relief of a vehicle seizure, you must:

    • apply within 12 months of the issuance of the Seizure Notice online
    • select a date for your written application to be reviewed
    • provide your contact information for preferred method of contact
    • agree to the terms and conditions
    • pay the non-refundable application fee of $50

  • Request a late review

    If you did not apply for a review within 7 days of the date of issuance of your Notice of Administrative Penalty or Seizure Notice or your review was deemed abandoned, you can submit a request for a late review up to 12 months after the date of issuance.

    To request a late review, you must:

    • apply through the SafeRoads portal
    • provide the reason for your request
    • provide any required supporting documents
    • pay the non-refundable application fee of $50

    An application for late review is limited to the grounds listed in the Provincial Administrative Penalties Regulation. Depending on which ground you apply under, some or all of the following grounds may apply:

    • You were unaware that a Notice of Administrative Penalty or Seizure Notice was issued and upon becoming aware of it you took prompt action to notify the Director.
    • You experienced physical or mental incapacity such that you were unable to respond to the Notice of Administrative Penalty or Seizure Notice within 7 days of the issuance of the Notice and upon regaining capacity you took prompt action to notify the Director.
    • Because of unforeseen and unavoidable events you were unable to respond to the Notice of Administrative Penalty or Seizure Notice within 7 days of the issuance of the Notice and once resolved you took prompt action to notify the Director.

  • Pay your fine

    To pay your Notice of Administrative Penalty fine, visit Pay your penalty.

  • Request more time to pay

    You can ask for more time to pay your Notice of Administrative Penalty fine at any time before the due date listed on your notice. Visit Pay your penalty for more information.

SafeRoads Alberta services are also available at participating Alberta registry agents. If you choose to use a registry agent, present the Notice of Administrative Penalty or Seizure Notice. Payments for SafeRoads Alberta services made at an Alberta registry agent may be subject to a service charge.

Notifications

If you select email or text as your preferred contact method, SafeRoads Alberta will send review notifications directly to the email or phone number provided.

Contravention not yet available

If your contravention details are pending (not yet submitted), the SafeRoads portal will display the following message:

  • The details of this contravention have not yet been added to the system. It will be available within 48 hours.

Contravention not found

If the contravention number entered is invalid, the Contravention Number field will be highlighted red and the SafeRoads portal will display the following message:

  • The details provided did not find a match.
