Very High wildfire danger

With continued high temperatures and a lack of precipitation, the fire danger is very high. Conditions are favourable for wildfires to start easily and spread quickly, making them more challenging to control. While a shift in weather may bring some relief later this week, several more days of hot, dry conditions are expected, and the wildfire danger will remain elevated.

A fire ban is in effect for the forest area. Please follow the fire ban to help prevent wildfires and ensure critical resources remain available for wildfire response.

Wildfire Situation 

Thanks to the hard work of firefighters and aircraft, RWF050 is now extinguished. 

Since January 1, 2025, there has been 50 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area. 

Fire ban

A fire ban is in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area. Under this fire ban all outdoor wood fires are prohibited and exiting fire permits are suspended.

Prohibited: 

  • All outdoor wood fires on public and private land. This includes campfires in:
    • backcountry and random camping areas
    • designated campgrounds
    • day use areas
    • private land
  • Barbecue charcoal briquettes 
  • Fireworks and exploding targets 

Allowed: 

  • Propane fire pits and natural gas-powered appliances 
  • Indoor wood fires 
  • Open flame oil devices

Smoke conditions

Smoky conditions are expected to continue in the area due to ongoing wildfire activity across Canada. No local wildfires are contributing to the smoke. If you have health concerns, visit Alberta Health Services or call 811 to speak with a registered nurse through Alberta Health Link.
